cTrader trading bots FAQ¶
What is the best trading bot?
No cBot can be considered the best, as each cBot follows its author's design and objectives. You use a cBot at your own risk, and profits are not guaranteed.
Where can I get cBots?
cTrader Store is a secure marketplace with dedicated sections for cBots, indicators and plugins, available as free or paid products.
Can I run cBots in cTrader Mobile?
Yes, cTrader Mobile fully supports cloud cBot instances.
How can I start a cBot?
After installation, start a cloud or local instance of the cBot.
What is the difference between a cloud instance and a local instance?
A cloud instance runs 24/7 in an environment provided by cTrader and does not depend on your device or cTrader app. A local instance runs on your machine and stops as soon as you close the cTrader Windows or Mac app.
Which cTrader apps support cBots?
All cTrader apps support cloud execution of cBots, while only cTrader Windows and Mac support local execution.
What happens to my open positions when I stop a cBot instance?
Stopping an instance does not automatically close any open positions. Any trades the cBot opened remain active, and you will have to close them manually.
Do I need programming skills to use a cBot?
No, using paid and free cBots from cTrader Store does not require any coding knowledge.
How can I test the cBot performance?
You can run the cBot on a clean demo account (without previous trades) and monitor its activity over time. Focus on consistency, drawdowns and behaviour under different market conditions. Backtest your cBot on historical market data in cTrader Windows and Mac.
How can I test the cBot performance?
Optimising the cBot for your broker and market conditions can significantly improve its performance.
Should I adjust the cBot parameters before running it?
You can start the cBot with its default parameters or use the provided optimisation file.
Will the cBot show the same performance on every account?
Performance may vary depending on broker conditions, spreads and execution quality. Testing the bot in your own environment helps you understand how it performs in real use.
Why did my trading bot disappear?
The most likely reason is that the author has decided to stop offering this trading bot. If the author is your partner in the Partner app, you can open their profile to view any available contact details. You can also access the author's profile by tapping their username in the Author field on the algorithm page. Contact the author directly if you want to ask them to restore the algorithm.
Can I run the same cBot on multiple symbols at the same time?
You can run multiple instances of the same cBot simultaneously, each with its own symbol, period, trading account and parameter values.
One of my cBot instances has suddenly stopped or crashed. Why?
In rare cases, an instance may encounter an error and terminate unexpectedly. If you go to the Instance information (or Journal) tab on the instance page, you should see a detailed activity log for the instance. This journal should show the exact event when the instance encountered an error.
Will my cBot continue running if my internet connection drops?
Once started, cloud instances run in isolated environments, provided by cTrader and independent of your device. These instances continue trading until you stop them or they encounter an error.
How many cBot instances can I start in the cloud?
You can simultaneously run 1 cBot instance on demo accounts and up to 10 cBot instances on live accounts in the cloud. Please note that these limits may vary depending on the broker.
Can I see the source code of a cBot?
You can view the source code of an algorithm in cTrader Windows or Mac only if the author shares an .algo file containing the code with you.
If I delete a cBot, will its instances also be deleted?
Deleting a cBot removes it along with all its instances, and with cloud synchronisation enabled, the cBot will disappear from all cTrader apps where your cTrader ID is active.
