Set up and analyse charts

This guide shows you how to use Local MCP to open charts, apply indicators and templates, annotate key levels with chart objects and perform visual technical analysis — all through natural language prompts.

1. Open a chart for your symbol

Start by opening a chart for the symbol and period you want to analyse.

Open a chart for EURUSD on the H1 period.

The agent opens a new chart and brings it into focus. If you already have a chart open, you can change its symbol and period instead:

Change the active chart to EURUSD on H4.

2. Apply your preferred template

If you have saved chart templates with your preferred colours, grid settings, or default indicators, apply one to get a consistent starting point.

Apply the template 'My Trading Setup' to the active chart.

To see what templates are available:

What chart templates are available?

3. Add technical indicators

Layer on the indicators you use for your analysis.

Add a 200-period Simple Moving Average to the active chart.
Add RSI and MACD with default settings to the active chart.

To check what is already on the chart:

What indicators are currently on the active chart?

4. Mark key levels with chart objects

Use chart objects to annotate support, resistance and other levels directly on the chart.

Draw a horizontal line on the active chart at 1.1200 and
another at 1.1350.
Add a trend line from the swing low at 1.1100 to the
recent higher low at 1.1180.

These visual markers make it easy to see where price is relative to your key levels.

5. Get indicator values for analysis

Ask the agent to read the computed values of the indicators on your chart.

What are the current RSI and MACD values on the active chart?
Is RSI overbought or oversold?
Get the last 20 values of the 200-period SMA on the active
chart and tell me whether price is above or below it.

The agent reads the indicator output values and provides a plain-language summary.

6. Adjust the view

Scroll and zoom to focus on the price action that matters.

Scroll the active chart back 100 bars so I can see the
previous trend.
Zoom in on the active chart to see the last 20 bars
in detail.

7. Combine into a full analysis workflow

Once you are comfortable with the individual steps, combine them into a single prompt.

Open a chart for EURUSD on H4, apply my 'Swing Trading'
template, add RSI and a 200-period SMA, draw horizontal
lines at 1.1200 and 1.1350, then tell me whether RSI is
overbought or oversold and whether price is above or below
the 200 SMA.

The agent executes all the chart operations, applies your indicators and levels and returns an analysis summary.
