cTrader technical indicators FAQ

What types of indicators does cTrader offer?

cTrader features two types of indicators: built-in indicators, which are available in all cTrader apps by default, and custom indicators, which are specially designed algorithms that work only in cTrader Windows and Mac.

Where can I get custom indicators?

cTrader Store is a secure marketplace with a dedicated section for custom indicators, available as free or paid products.

How do I use an indicator?

Open the symbol chart where you want to use the indicator and add it there.

Which cTrader apps support indicators from Store?

Custom indicators work only in cTrader Windows and Mac.

How can I test an indicator?

Apply the indicator to different symbols and periods to understand how it behaves under various market conditions.

Should I adjust the indicator parameters?

You can modify its parameters to adapt the indicator to your strategy.

Do I need programming skills to use an indicator?

No, using built-in or custom indicators does not require any coding knowledge.

Can I use indicators in cTrader Mobile?

Yes, cTrader Mobile supports built-in indicators.

Can I use the same indicator on multiple charts at the same time?

Yes, you can add an indicator to as many charts as you like. Each indicator instance runs independently with its own settings.

How do I install a custom indicator?

You can install a custom indicator either directly from cTrader Store or by opening an indicator .algo file in cTrader Windows or Mac.

What happens when I install a custom indicator from cTrader Store?

With cloud synchronisation enabled, any indicator installed from cTrader Store automatically appears in desktop cTrader apps where your cTrader ID is active.

What can I configure in the indicator settings?

Depending on the indicator, you can configure parameters that control the indicator's output, line styles and colours, level lines, bar settings and the indicator's display position on the chart.

Can I avoid overlapping an indicator on the chart?

You can set the position of an indicator to display it directly on the chart or in a separate panel below the chart.

What is a custom indicator instance?

Can I change the parameters of a custom indicator instance?

How can I transfer instance parameters of an indicator

An .indiset file stores specific parameter values for an indicator instance. You can load an .indiset file to automatically fill in the parameters of an instance, or save your current parameter values to a file for reuse in another instance.

Will deleting a custom indicator also delete its instances?

Yes, deleting a custom indicator removes it along with all its instances. With cloud synchronisation enabled, both the indicator and its instances will disappear from all cTrader apps where your cTrader ID is active.

Can I copy a custom indicator?

Can I see the source code of an indicator?

You can view and edit the source code of a custom indicator in cTrader Windows or Mac only if you created it yourself or if the author shared an .algo file containing the code with you.
